Akram Al-Otumi is a serial entrepreneur and a passionate supporter of Nova Scotia’s innovation ecosystem. He is a lecturer in innovation and entrepreneurship at Dalhousie University and the Manager of Shiftkey Labs, an innovation Sandbox within Dalhousie’s Faculty of Computer Science. Previously, he worked as a faculty member in entrepreneurship and marketing at NSCC.

Akram has founded multiple businesses including Spritely, a platform to support tourists and newcomers in their transition to Canada, 3D Next, a 3D printing technology firm and Alotumi Consulting. He remains actively involved in student and young professional organizations related to mentorship, business, entrepreneurship and innovation including Enactus and he sets on diverse professional and volunteer boards.

For his contributions to the regional and national entrepreneurship and innovation communities, Akram was named one of RBC’s Top 25 Canadian Immigrants, was selected as one of the 21 leaders of the 21st century by 21inc, and was named as an Enactus John Dobson Fellow.

Akram received a Master’s in Technology, Entrepreneurship and Innovation from Saint Mary’s University, a Master’s of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies focusing on business leadership and systems thinking from Royal Roads university and a Bachelor of Commerce from Dalhousie University.  He has called Halifax home since moving to Canada from Yemen in 2007.
