Bernd Christmas is a recognized and accomplished leader in the Indigenous and business communities. He was the first Mi’kmaw to become a lawyer in Canada. Mr. Christmas is currently the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gitpo Storms Corporation, a national Indigenous firm. He also sits on Canada Post’s Board of Directors, and is a member of Investors Group Board of Directors and the President of Outside Looking In, a national organization providing Indigenous youth with the opportunity to engage in long-term intensive education through dance. Mr. Christmas was a partner in the law firm of Cassels Brock, specializing in Indigenous law. Prior to joining the practice, he founded in 2009 the Bernd Christmas Law Group, offering advice and assistance to First Nations as well as industry and government organizations in various aspects of regulatory and policy matters.During his career, Mr. Christmas has served as the CEO of the Membertou Band of Nova Scotia and the Membertou Corporate Division. He has also negotiated on behalf of many First Nations bands.Mr. Christmas’ past directorships include the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation (now known as Indspire), the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and the Prime Minister’s External Advisory Committee on Smart Regulation.
